Inspiring Forward: Making a Difference on Grandparent’s Day

We met with Margaux Gonzalez (MG) who actively engaged in helping to prepare for Grandparent’s Day at St. Stephens Episcopal School. She expressed the belief that every time she volunteers her time for a meaningful cause, she learns something new and valuable.

AC: What organization or local cause did you volunteer for?

MG: I volunteered at St. Stephens Episcopal School.

AC: Can you please provide an overview of their mission?

MG:  The mission of St. Stephen’s is to enable every student to lead genuinely, think broadly, and serve selflessly.

AC: Was this your first time volunteering for this organization or cause? Please elaborate.

MG:  My two daughters are enrolled at St. Stephen’s, and our family actively participates in the church community. Whenever possible, I volunteer for events and contribute to the upkeep of the gardens and assist in classrooms.

AC: Where there any requirements for this type of volunteerism?

MG: Requirements for volunteering for St. Stephens for the volunteer include going through a background check, having a student enrolled in the school, being on Anchor Point, and a desire to serve.

AC: Why did you choose to volunteer here for your Day of Giving?

MG:  I am passionate about the environment in which my children are nurtured and am dedicated to supporting worthy causes. Volunteering for the school enables me to invest my time for these dual purposes.

AC: Can you tell us about your volunteer experience? What did you do? Did your time volunteering meet your expectations?

MG: In the morning, I assisted with setting up by carrying tables and chairs and arranging seating for families. Later, I helped prepare for the event by filling coolers with ice, replenishing water and iced tea dispensers, and assisting with the setup at the entrance alongside other volunteers. Throughout the afternoon, during the Grandparents’ Day event, I dedicated my time to serving in the kitchen, assisting elderly grandparents with their plates, seating guests, and contributing to the cleanup efforts afterward.

AC: What would you like to share to encourage others to volunteer their time and energy locally?

MG: I find that each time I volunteer for a worthy cause, I gain new and valuable insights—whether about the world, myself, or life in general. I advocate for everyone to engage in introspection regarding where they wish to invest their time and energy and what ignites their passion. Volunteering offers a meaningful avenue to effect change in our communities by dedicating our time and effort to causes that require support.

AC: Are there any links to the organization, additional educational resources, etc. that you would like to share?

MG: I am truly grateful to Activus Connect and its Co-Founders, Felix and Minerva, for their profound care for their employees, prioritizing our well-being, and encouraging our engagement in communities. Through initiatives like the Day of Giving, they have provided us with a platform to become more involved in our communities and make meaningful contributions to worthy causes.
