Inspiring Forward: Cookies for Care

We met with Nichole Osborn, Director of Learning and Development, to go over her volunteering baking experience.

AC: What organization or local cause did you volunteer for?

Nichole: Colorado Palliative and Hospice Care is the organization that I volunteer for. My daughter Sarah and I spent the day making cookies to put in baskets to be delivered to various patients.

AC: Can you please provide an overview of their mission?

Nichole: Their mission is to provide the highest level of comfort and care, honoring and respecting the dignity of each individual, and enhancing the quality of living at the end of life, under the guidance of Christian principles.

AC: Was this your first time volunteering for this organization or cause? Please elaborate.

Nichole: No, I started volunteering back in November of 2019.

AC: Were there any requirements for this type of volunteerism?

Nichole: There aren’t any requirements, however, visiting patients that are in hospice can be difficult but very important to them and their families. Furthermore, it can allow a caregiver to take a break and give the patient the opportunity to share their memories with their visitor.

AC: Why did you choose to volunteer here for your Day of Giving?

Nichole: I want to be able to help someone that is experiencing this part of life and support their family. Recently, I have been donating cookie baskets and have been tickled by the response that I am getting.

AC: Can you tell us about your volunteer experience? What did you do? Did your time volunteering meet your expectations?

Nichole: This time I spent the day making 10 cookie baskets to take to the office for the nurses and share with the patients. We made around 120 cookies to put in the baskets.

AC: What would you like to share to encourage others to volunteer their time and energy locally?

Nichole: Volunteering your time is one of the easiest things that we can do for each other.

AC: Is there anything else that you would like to share about your experience?

Nichole: I enjoy being able to volunteer and donate my time to this organization.
