We had the pleasure of connecting with Samora Nunn (SN), a passionate advocate supporting families in need of home supplies while volunteering at Dallas Furniture Bank; the same organization that once assisted her and her family.
AC: What organization or local cause did you volunteer for?
SN: I volunteered at the Dallas Furniture Bank.
AC: Can you please provide an overview of their mission?
SN: Assist families transitioning to new homes or apartments and support homeless individuals as they move into stable housing.
AC: Was this your first time volunteering for this organization or cause? Please elaborate.
SN: I’ve been involved with this organization for 2 years. My family once relied on their services, and their incredible support inspired me to give back.
AC: Where there any requirements for this type of volunteerism?
SN: I don’t believe there are specific requirements. Their focus is on dedication to the job.
AC: Why did you choose to volunteer here for your Day of Giving?
SN: Dallas Furniture Bank made a huge difference for my family, and I wanted to pay it forward by helping others in the same way they helped us.
AC: Can you tell us about your volunteer experience? What did you do? Did your time volunteering meet your expectations?
SN: I assisted in selecting furniture, bedding, and rugs, and helped reorganize the warehouse. Guiding several families through the space, I supported them in choosing beds, sofas, chairs, and anything else they needed for their new homes.
AC: What would you like to share to encourage others to volunteer their time and energy locally?
SN: Expressing gratitude is the ultimate gesture. In times of hardship, knowing that someone cares can truly make all the difference in the world.
AC: Are there any links to the organization, additional educational resources, etc. that you would like to share?
SN: Their website features numerous organizations they collaborate with, offering volunteering opportunities as well.
