We met with Jasmine Brown (JB), who shared her experience where she volunteered as a chaperone for her son’s school field trip to Hill Ridge Farms. She shared insights into the school’s “Students First” mission, her role in supporting the 3rd-grade team, and how this opportunity allowed her to build connections while giving back to the community. JB emphasized the rewarding nature of volunteering, highlighting how even small efforts can create meaningful impacts locally.
AC: What organization or local cause did you volunteer for?
JB: For my Day Of Giving, I volunteered to chaperone on my son’s school field trip to Hill Ridge Farms.
AC: Can you please provide an overview of their mission?
JB: I did not volunteer for an organization, but I did volunteer to help out on my son’s school field trip. the schools mission statement is “Students First”.
AC: Was this your first time volunteering for this organization or cause? Please elaborate.
JB: I recently switched my child to a preparatory school, and this was my first time volunteering/helping out on a school trip.
AC: Where there any requirements for this type of volunteerism?
JB: In order to be an approved chaperone, the only thing I needed to do was undergo a background check.
AC: Why did you choose to volunteer here for your Day of Giving?
JB: I chose to volunteer at my son’s school for my day of giving, because I felt it was a nice way to give back to the community, along with creating strong bonds and friendships (since my son is new to the school). It was also nice to learn the importance of farms and how they give back to such a small community as well.
AC: Can you tell us about your volunteer experience? What did you do? Did your time volunteering meet your expectations?
JB: For this trip, it was the entire 3rd grade team that attended. so I helped keep an eye on all the kids and made sure that we followed our itinerary that was provided by the farm to ensure we were able to enjoy all the planned activities.
AC: What would you like to share to encourage others to volunteer their time and energy locally?
JB: To encourage others to volunteer their time and energy locally, I would share how rewarding it is to make a difference in your community. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to build new connections. Even small efforts can have a big impact!
AC: Is there anything else that you would like to share about your experience?
JB: This trip really helped me to understand how much we depend on our local farms/farmers, and it showed how much work is put in behind the scenes to ensure our small community receives nothing but the best when it comes to fresh produce!
