Giving back can be as simple as lending a hand or positively impacting someone’s day. We met with Kaunya Westbrook to go over her Day of Giving experience.
AC: What organization or local cause did you volunteer for?
KW: I volunteered at Phase 3 Hair Salon owned by Linda Bunch.
AC: Can you please provide an overview of their mission?
KW: Linda Bunch provides hair services for clients. She has been in business for over 30 years.
AC: Was this your first time volunteering for this organization or cause? Please elaborate.
KW: Yes, it was. Mrs. Bunch has done my hair for years since I was a little girl. I knew I could help clean and straighten up things around the shop for her and take the garbage out.
AC: Were there any requirements for this type of volunteerism?
KW: I helped sweep up hair and trash around the shop. I also offered beverages to her clients as well.
AC: Why did you choose to volunteer here for your Day of Giving?
KW: I chose to volunteer at Phase 3 Salon because Mrs. Bunch is the sweetest lady I know, and I wanted to make sure I was able to help her for the day.
AC: Can you tell us about your volunteer experience? What did you do? Did your time volunteering meet your expectations?
KW: I offered beverages to the clients that came. I help restock shelves for Mrs. Bunch. I swept the place for her after each client she did. At the end, I took out the garbage as well. I enjoyed helping her for the day. It was fun and we had a lot of laughs.
AC: What would you like to share to encourage others to volunteer their time and energy locally?
KW: I would like to say that giving back is a great experience. Your day will be full of laughs, and you will feel good about giving back.
AC: Is there anything else that you would like to share about your experience?
KW: The time went by faster than I thought it would. That’s how much fun I had. I even brought my kids to help as well, and they enjoyed themselves.
