We met with NaQuoette Felder-Stubblefield (NF) who volunteered at Anderson Academy’s rainy field day in Houston, ensuring child safety and managing activities with enthusiasm. Her fulfilling experience met her expectations and sparked a desire to return next year, inspiring others to volunteer for the joy and personal reward it brings!
AC: What organization or local cause did you volunteer for?
NF: I volunteered at my children’s 1st and 2nd grade field day at Anderson Academy in Houston, Texas.
AC: Can you please provide an overview of their mission?
NF: Anderson’s Academy mission was to provide a great experience to all children in the 1st and 2nd grade. Even though it rained during the 2nd graders time slot for their field day. We were still able to show them a great time as if they were outside.
AC: Was this your first time volunteering for this organization or cause? Please elaborate.
NF: This was my first time volunteering at Anderson Academy’s Field Day, and I am looking forward to it again next year. When my children become 2nd and 3rd graders in 2025.
AC: Where there any requirements for this type of volunteerism?
NF: The only requirement is that you have to be a relative of the child to volunteer during field day. We must pass a background check to participate.
AC: Why did you choose to volunteer here for your Day of Giving?
NF: Yes, I will choose to volunteer at Anderson Academy’s for my Day of Giving. Giving back to the community and enjoying the children in their festivities is such a joy!
AC: Can you tell us about your volunteer experience? What did you do? Did your time volunteering meet your expectations?
NF: I had a few expectations, but the main one was being organized and that each child was accounted for, for safety. I made sure to keep count of each child and make sure they were attentive to the next move. When going to the next activities. Communication was another one for me when my children’s teachers instructed me to do something. For example, making sure all the children had their lunch, and needed to be walked to the bathroom. My time volunteering meets my expectations.
AC: What would you like to share to encourage others to volunteer their time and energy locally?
NF: I encourage everyone to go out and volunteer because it is very heartwarming to be there for the ones that are in need. When we take the time to be there for others, it gives us a chance to appreciate what we have. Even though I volunteered for children it was still a great experience to be involved in their lives for that moment. I was able to provide love, security, joy, and fun.
AC: Is there anything else that you would like to share about your experience?
NF: As I mentioned before the 2nd graders could not go outside because it started to rain. I made it my business for them to enjoy themselves. I was able to witness their smiles and joy.
